Did You Know?
Did you know that right here in our own backyard, the Community Dining Room serves more than 20,000 meals each year to individuals who are homebound and unable to leave their homes?
It's true — and it’s one of the many things that make our community so special.
Our Homebound Meal Program, which serves residents of Branford and North Branford, is designed specifically for those who are often elderly, living alone, and unable to shop or prepare meals themselves. For them, getting a hot, nutritious meal delivered right to their door is more than just about food — it's about connection, care, and community.
Thanks to the vision of Betsy Klarman, who founded this vital program, and the continued dedication of our staff and volunteers, we’re able to bring both nourishment and a friendly face to those who need it most. Meals are delivered three days a week — Monday, Wednesday, and Friday — by our incredible team of volunteers who not only bring food, but also check in, share a smile, and remind our recipients that they are not alone.
Each person we serve is personally welcomed into the program through an intake process led by our caring Program Coordinator, Jane Ferrall. From that first phone call, Jane becomes a trusted point of contact — someone who listens, supports, and makes sure each new client feels seen and valued.
And did we mention? There is no cost to receive meals. This service is made possible through the generosity of our donors, the tireless work of our volunteers, and the spirit of community that continues to define our mission.
So this May, as we celebrate spring and the season of renewal, let’s also celebrate the small but powerful ways we come together to lift each other up — one meal, one smile, one connection at a time.
With gratitude,
Judith Barron
